James D. Smith
James Smith is a partner at Black Point Creative and owner of Marketing Smart, Inc., who is responsible for strategic analytics, ad retargeting, implementation of new technology, and business development.
James was born in England, grew up in Tulsa, and graduated from Northeastern State University with a marketing degree. He has worked in fields such as Healthcare, Wellness, Hospitality, Event planning, and Higher Education, all of which are marked by 30 years of his success, innovation, and passion.
In 2009 James was hired on as the Director of CES Marketing and Business Development for the ORU Mabee Center and was later promoted to the Director of University Marketing position over all of Oral Roberts University. He oversaw the induction of the Mabee Center into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, created an eMuseum to celebrate the Mabee Center’s rich history, orchestrated over 3,000 concerts and events, and saw growth in both reach and enrollment of students to the university year after year.
Before signing on with ORU, James worked with the Saint Francis Health System as the director of their Corporate Challenge, an event designed to inspire healthy lifestyles within communities throughout Tulsa. During James’ tenure as Executive Director for the Corporate Challenge the event grew in popularity every single year. In 2002, his final year as Director, the event held close to 32,000 participants, 1500 volunteers, over 225 teams, and over 30 sponsors, all of which were under James’ coordination and direction.
Other notable accomplishments of James’ include winning numerous state-wide advertising awards, managing multiple restaurants, and opening his own gym which featured an innovative fitness program.
